Narooma Bowls - 1 Jul

Wednesday 26 Jun

Another good day of bowls with 6 rinks of triples and a rink of pairs and this weeks winners, decided by Lucky Rinks, were Margaret Naylor, Greg Rankin, visiting from Orbost, and Garry Burke (skip) who were in control of their match early on, leading 13 to 6 after 11 ends and 18 to 13 after 18 ends before they had to withstand a strong fightback to take their match 18 to 17 against John Rowley, Jeff McCusker and Keith Pickett (skip).  Thank you to Rapley & Son’s Butcheryfor their continued support.

Sunday 30 Jun

The sun shone meekly but we had a great afternoon of bowls with two rinks of pairs and two rinks of triples.  Winners, decided by Lucky Rinks, were the inform Peter Hawker and Clare Cork who combined with Warren Bender (skip) to lead throughout for an 18 to 8 win against Peter Tinson, Graeme Howden and Cindy Newell (skip).

Dixie Dean Competition

There were two matches played this week, Olwyn Mayer, Carol Harraway and Pat Barklem (skip) played John Voytas, Cindy Newell and John McNamara (skip) and after taking the first 8 ends John’s team had an 18 to 1 lead after 11 ends and they didn’t ease up at all to run out 25 to 8 winners.  In the other match Darrel Goodridge, John Spees and Jeremy Seaton (skip) played Scott Kennedy, Tony Cobcroft and Peter Pickett (skip) and after being down early Jeremy’s team strung 7 out of 8 ends together to lead 14 to 5 after 11 ends.  After conceding 4 ends in a row Jeremy and his side regathered their game and finished strongly to claim the match 20 to 9.

President’s Pairs

The Final of the President’s Pairs was played on Saturday with Tony Gors and Les Waldock (skip) up against John Voytas and Keith Pickett (skip).  Well this was a game worth watching, it had everything, good bowls, tight heads, great draw shots and even some good on shots and it was anyone’s game throughout.  Les and Tony led early and after being 7 all after 7 ends John and Keith took the lead to be ahead 11 to 10 after 10 ends. They put 3 ends together to get out to a commanding 19 to 10 lead but immediately Tony and Les were back in the game taking the next 4 ends and reducing the lead to 1 shot, 18 to 19.  John and Keith regrouped, taking the next 3 ends to lead 24 to 18 after 20 ends and despite Tony and Les going all out to pick up that margin, they could only get 2 shots on the last end with the final score 24 to 20 to John and Keith.  So, a great game to end a very good Tournament with John Voytas and Keith Pickett the 2023/24 President’s Pairs champions.
