Wednesday 11 Dec
It was good to see another full house at bowls on Wednesday and winners, decided by Lowest Winning Margin, were Gordon Foster, Jeff McCusker and Glen Brown (skip) who led 11 to 9 after 11 ends and held a narrow lead until they were overtaken 15 to 14 after 18 ends. They immediately struck back to take the last 2 ends to regain the lead and win the match 16 to 15 against Warren Bender, Neville Cork and John Downie (skip).
Second place went to Russell Smith, John Spees and Dennis Maggs (skip) who were down 2 to 12 after 9 ends and remained behind except for the 13th end where they were all square at 13 allbefore they trailed again to be down 18 to 19 after 19 ends. In the final end, they took 2 shots to take the lead for the first time, and won the match 20 to 19, against the unlucky John Rowley, Barry Goodwin and Baxter Smith (skip). Tony Cobcroft and Rod Holman were in fine form, taking the first resting toucher at 12.50, well done to both of you.
Thank you to Rapley & Son’s Butchery for theircontinued support.
Saturday 14 Dec
in the pairs, Peter Murton and Glen Brown (skip) were all over it in the early ends to lead 17 to 3 after 11 ends and try as they might, Rod Walker and Terry Lewis (skip) couldn’t close the gap and Peter and Glen took the match 24 to 13.
Sunday 15 Dec
we had 3 rinks of triples and a rink of pairs and the winners, decided by Closest Winning Margin, were Scott Cockerell and John Downie (skip) who started strongly to lead 12 to 4 after 10 ends before things tightened up and the match was square at 14 all, 15 all and 16 all before they drew clear again for a 20 to 16 win against Aurelia Robinson and Barry Lymbery (skip).
Second place went to Enid Brooker, Pieter Vos and Bruce Rapkins (skip) who were in fine form to lead 17 to 9 after 11 ends and kept their opponents at bay to go on to a 24 to 16 win against Ross Richardson, Graeme Howden and Peter Tinson (skip).
Mixed Pairs Championship
One Mixed Pairs match was played this week. Carol Harraway and Terry Lewis (skip) played Aurelia Robinson and Mick Cavic (skip) and in a close first half, Terry’s team maintained a lead and were in front 13 to 10 after 11 ends and after 17 ends they led 15 to 14. From there on they attacked the jack to take the remaining ends to win their game 26 to 14.
