Marlins Cup - 2025

Writer's picture: Narooma BowlsNarooma Bowls

We had 16 teams of triples competing in the Marlin Cup with teams selected randomly.  What a great day this turned out to be with 2 games of 12 end triples played after we were plied with delicious lamingtons and slices to sustain us through the morning.  Play started at 10am and there were 2 greens of teams buzzing with enthusiasm.

After the first 12 end game was completed, teams were directed to the opposite green and new opponents.  What a difference it seemed to be with teams in the running falling by the wayside during the second game and when results were posted there were only 3 teams that had a clean sheet, winning both games.

There were many hard luck stories and, if only we, comments including one skip lamenting that he played a brilliant on shot taking the jack back to his bowls but the jack hit a bowl and came back up the green and he went down 6 shots.

Winners were presented with prizemoney, generously sponsored by Sapphire Coast Cleaning Supplies.

First place went to Olwyn Mayer, Greg Maloney and Rhys Budnick (skip) with 2 wins and +14 margin.

Second place went to John Voytas, Peter James and Gary Murane (skip) 2 wins +11,

Third place went to Suzanne Dainer, Glenn Brown, John McNamara (skip) 2 wins +7 margin.

Fourth place - Clare Cork, Garry Burke and Dennis Maggs (skip) 1 win + 13 margin.

Fifth place - Jeff McCusker, Mark Bartrop and Rob Coulson (skip) 1 win +7 margin.

Sixth place - Christine Cockerell, Ross Harris and Peter Dillon (skip) 1 win +6 margin.

Congratulations and thank you to the sponsor, our greenkeeper and all the organisers who helped make this such a successful day.

Thank you also to Brendan and all the NSSC staff who looked after us so well and provided the great Pizzas for our lunch.
