Wednesday 22 January
We had another good turnout on Wednesday and winners, decided by Lowest Winning Margin were Andy Thompson, Rhys Budnick and Glen Brown(skip) who were trailing 8 to 9 after 11 ends before they squared the match on the next end and then drew clear, only to come back to the field to again be square, 15 all, with 1 end to play. With steely resolve, they picked up 2 hard earned shots on the last end to take the match 17 to 15 against Wazza George, Baxter Smith and Barry Goodwin (skip).
Second prize went to Cindy Newell, Kevvy Callaway and Keith PIckett (skip) who were in a game where the lead changed 7 times and after being down 11 to 12 after 10 ends they went to and fro until they were all square, 21 all after 16 ends. They took 3 of the final 4 ends to win their encounter 26 to 22 against Alison Maloney, Greg Maloney and Jeremy Seaton (skip).
Sunday 26 January
We had 2 rinks of triples and a rink of pairs and winners were decided by Lowest Winning Margin and it couldn’t get any closer as the score ended up 14 all but a win, on countback, went to Peter Hawker, Pieter Vos and Ken Burrows (skip) who survived a measure on the last end against Christine Cockerell, Sue Sansom and Jean Vos (skip).
Wednesday 29 January
We played versatility where the leads and seconds can see the easy ride the skips get.
Winners on the daywere Garry Burke, Sue Waldock and Rob Coulson (skip) who led clearly after Garry and Sue’s turn at skip and then they supported Rob for the final 7 ends as they won their match 27 to 16 against Suzanne Dainer, Jim Constan and Peter Jones (skip).
Thank you to Rapley & Son’s Butchery for their continued support.
Saturday 1 February
we started February with only a few social bowlers as the Blue Water Shield was being played on Green 1.
Winners were Sue Waldock, Deb Cargill and Dennis Maggs (skip) who led 8 to 5 after 8 ends and then started to draw clear for a 26 to 14 win against Rod Walker, Peter Robson and Peter McKay (skip).
Mixed Pairs Championship
One Quarter Final match was played last week with Ella and John Breust (skip) playing Carol Harraway and Terry Lewis (skip). After 5 ends the score was 4 all in a tight start to the match. Carol and Terry then put on a spurt to take 5 of the next 6 ends to lead 12 to 5 after 11 ends. Ella and John immediately countered to take the next 4 ends to narrow the margin to 12 to 11. In another run of top bowls Carol and Terry took the next 5 ends to draw clear for a 21 to 11 win.
Minor Singles
Four matches to report,
Peter Dillon played Rod Walker and Peter got away to a good start to lead 14 to 3 after 11 ends. Rod started to get in to the match taking 6 of the next 9 ends to narrow the score to a 19 to 15 lead to Peter. Peter picked up the next 3 ends to lead 22 to 15 and he was able to finish hard to win the match 25 to 18.
Peter backed up later in the week to play Warren Bender and in a match where he continually played top bowls Peter didn’t let Warren in to the game as he ran away with a convincing win, 25 to 5.
Darrel Goodridge played Ross Harris and in this match Darrel was on fire early to lead 17 to 1 after 11 ends. Ross came back to take the next 5 ends to trail 10 to 17 but Darrel steadied to take the match 25 to 13.
Rhys Budnick and Dennis Maggs played on Friday and Rhys started strongly to take 8 of the 1st 9 ends to race out to a 13 to 2 lead. After sharing ends for a while Dennis took 4 of 5 ends to trail 17 to 19 after 20 ends. Rhys upped the anti from there on and in a great burst he took the final 4 ends to win the match 25 to 17.
