Mixed Pairs Championship
We had one semi final and one quarter final match in the Mixed Pairs Championship played in the last week.
First up in the semi final match we had Sue and Les Waldock (skip) against Jan Rapkins and Russell Burke (skip). After getting away to a good start Jan and Russell led 5 to 0 after 4 ends and after Sue and Les levelled the match at 6 all after 7 ends Jan and Russell then strung thenext 5 ends together with some top bowls to get out to a 17 to 6 lead. Sue and Les then retaliated to take 6 of the following 7 ends to narrow the score to 15 to 18 after 18 ends. Jan and Russell then regrouped to take the next 2 ends and kept Les’s team to 1 shot as they took the match 21 to 16.
In the next matchAlison Maloney and Gavin Richardson (skip) played Kaye Whiffen and Peter Dillon (skip). Alison and Gavin started well to 10 to 3 after 7 ends but Kaye and Peter got their games going well and after taking the next 4 ends they hit the front, for the 1st time, 11 to 10. Alison and Gavin took 3 shots on the next end to regain the lead 13 to 11 but then Kaye and Peter knuckled down to win the next 5 ends as they drew out to a 21 to 13 lead after 17 ends. With the next 4 ends being shared Kaye and Peter took the exciting match, 24 to 18.
