Wednesday 23 April
We had plenty of rinks in action on Wednesday. Winners, decided by Lowest Winning Margin, were Suzanne Dainer, Carol Harraway and Terry Lewis (skip) who had a really close game where they were all square at 3 all, 7 all and 9 all before they trailed 9 to 10 after 11 ends. They dropped the next 2 ends but then put in a burst to dash out to a 16 to 13 lead after 17 ends and retained the lead for a 17 to 15 win against Russell Smith, Les Waldock and John Spees (skip). Second place went to Darrel Goodridge, Mary Williams and Tom Allen (skip) who hit the front on end 9 and led 11 to 8 after 12 ends. They extended their lead to take the match 22 to 13 against Margaret Naylor, Pam Grant and Andrew Williams (skip). Thank you to Rapley and Son’s Butchery for their continued support.
Sunday 27 April
On Sunday we had 2 rinks of triples. Winners, decided by Lucky Rink, were Leanne Adamthwaite, Christine Cockerell and Peter Tinson (skip) who were all square at 7 all after 10 ends and after picking up a shot on end 11 they hit the front 8 to 7 for the first time in the match. They picked up some good ends to draw clear and finished with a 20 to 11 win against Peter Hawker, Olwyn Mayer and Kaye Whiffen (skip). In the next match Treat Dufty, Trent Brooker and Jean Vos (skip) had a great game where they were 9 all after 10 ends and took the lead, 10 to 9 on end 11. They kept the lead, narrowly, for the remainder of the game and took the match 17 to 15 against Amanda Simpson, (Jean and Pieter’s talented daughter), Pieter Vos and Ken Burrows (skip).
Pennant Results Round 10
Our Grade 5 team was at home to Moruya Grade 5 on Saturday and we lost
1 rink to 2, 55 shots to 60
1 point to 9.
Results were –
Peter Dillon, Cindy Newell, John Scott,Keith Pickett (skip) were beaten 18 shots to 22. Margie Naylor, Rob Coulson, Sandra Breust Gavin Richardson (skip) lost 15 shots to 21 John Downie, Glenn Brown, Ray Gale, Greg Ryan (skip) won 22 shots to 17.
At the moment our Grade 5 team is leading their Division and we are awaiting the result of the final game between Bodalla Grade 5 and Tomakin Grade 4 as Bodalla need to win this game for them to overtake us.
The Grade 6 had a bye in Round 10 and ended up in a very credible 3rd position. Well done team.
Open Minor Pairs
The final of the Minor Pairs was played on Friday with John Scott and Kevin Callaway (skip) playing Trent Brooker and Darrel Goodridge (skip). John and Kevin got away to a good start to lead early before Trent and Darrel came back to lead 8 to 6 after 8 ends. John and Kevvie put in some big ends to race out to a 20 to 9 lead after 14 ends and they kept the margin to the end as they won their match 25 to 16. Congratulations to John and Kevin, well played guys, a deserved win and well done to Trent and Darrel who put in the hard yards throughout the tournament and played some great bowls.
Open Consistency
Five matches to report on this week –
Glen Brown played Jeremy Seaton and Jeremy dominated early winning 4 ends to 1 with 3 shared as he led 51 to 29 after 8 ends. Glen came back to take 5 ends to 0 and 2 shared in a fine burst which saw him take the lead, for the 1st time, 79 to 71 on end 15. After they each won 2 of the following 4 ends, Glen took the match 101 to 89.
Darrel Goodridge and Peter Hiscox and after an even start they were 35 all after 7 ends and Darrel took 3 ends in a row to lead 58 to 42 after 10 ends. Peter came back strongly and the match was all square at 85 all after 17 ends. Darrel won the next 2 ends for a 98 to 92 score with 1 end to play and after picking up 4 points he won the match 102 to 98.
Jim Constan played Ross Harris and Jim started well to lead 54 to 26 after 8 ends. Ross came back well but Jim knuckled down to take the match 104 to 66.
John Downie played Rod Walker and John started well to lead 50 to 30 after 8 ends. Rod came back strongly to trail 58 to 62 after 12 ends but from there John upped his game to draw away for a 101 to 79 win.
Cindy Newell and Mark Bartrop and in a match that was close throughout with Cindy winning 8 ends, Mark 7 ends and 5 tied. The scores were all square at 40 all and 50 all before Cindy led from 56 to 54 after 11 ends to 91 to 89 after 18 ends. Mark saw the finishing line and picked up a 7 to 3 on end 19, to lead 96 to 94 and then he shared the final end 5 all to take this enthralling match 101 to 99.
