Wednesday 9 Mar
We had 8 rinks in action on Wednesday and on ends 10 and 20 we had double
points. Winners, decided by Highest Winning Score, were Mick Cavic, Margie
Naylor and Sandra Breust (skip) who led 9 to 6 after 7 ends before they got their
mojo working as they continued to attack the jack on their way to a good win
against Baxter Smith, Ken Burrows and Barry Goodwin (skip).
Second place went to Cindy Newell, Kevvy Callaway and Keith Pickett (skip) who came out
running to lead 24 to 2 after 11 ends and after conceding 4 ends in a row they still
led 27 to 11. They finished strongly to win their match 34 to 13 against Olwyn
Mayer, Pat Barklem and Barry Lymbery (skip).
Sunday 20 Apr
On Sunday we had 2 rinks of triples and 1 rink of pairs.
Winners, decided by Highest Winning Score, were Treat Dufty, Warren Bender and Peter Tinson (skip) who were in fine form to lead all the way for a 28 to 7 win against Christine Cockerell, Ross Richardson and Ken Burrows (skip).
In the next match Sue Sansom and Clare Cork (skip) had a great game where they were all square at 2 all, 3 all, 4 all, 7 all and 9 all after 12 ends before they lost the lead, to trail 9 to 12
after 14 ends. Sue and Clare then upped their intensity to take the final 4 ends to
win their match 16 to 12 against Trent Brooker and Peter Jones(skip).
In the third match Pieter Vos, Sue Wales and Darrel Goodridge (skip) led 8 to 6 after 10 ends
and then had a good run to take their match 21 to 10 against Rob and Jenny
McIntyre, Kaye Whiffen and Jean Vos (skip). Clare Cork had a resting toucher at
1.40, well done Clare, in fine form as usual.
Thank you to Rapley and Son’s Butchery for their continued support.
Open Minor Pairs
The semifinal of the Minor Pairs was played on Friday with John Scott (sub) and
Kevin Callaway (skip) playing Sue Waldock and Rod Walker (skip). Sue and Rod
got away to a good start to lead 7 to 4 after 8 ends before John and Kevin
responded by taking 3 of the following 4 ends to lead 11 to 10 after 12 ends. They
started to get a margin and after 18 ends they led 19 to 12.
More great bowls were played by both sides, but Sue and Rod could not make up the shots needed and John and Kevin took the match 20 to 15.
They will meet Trent Brooker and Darrel Goodridge in the final.
Open Consistency
Greg Ryan and Les Waldock played on Friday and Greg, the defending Champion,
was at his best, as he drew superbly and nudged Les’s shots out when necessary, to
lead 35 to 25 after 6 endsand 70 to 50 after 12 ends on his way to a 100 to 65 win.
